Campus Buyback, is a well funded private company that uses an internet webservice to buy and sell college textbooks. Through a network of independent Campus Buyback Textbook Buyers, we centrally collect the right textbooks at the right price and resell them to students.
THE TEAM
Peter E. Hurtubise - CEO / Board Member
As CEO, Mr. Hurtubise is responsible for Strategic Direction, Technology, Sales and Marketing. Prior to Campus Buyback, he founded Creekstone Consulting, Inc., and provided market strategy consulting services to private equity firms, venture capital and management teams. In addition to founding several software and ecommerce companies, Mr. Hurtubise held senior executive management positions at Cyclone Commerce (sold to Axway), GXS (formerly General Electric Information Services – sold to Francisco Partners), Actra (a Netscape/GE joint venture), American Business Computer (sold to Sterling Commerce), and QRS, Inc. (NASDAQ: QRSI – sold to Golden Gate Partners).

Mr. Hurtubise received his B.A. from Wilfrid Laurier University, Waterloo in Ontario, Canada.
Brian Zilvitis – CFO/COO
Mr. Zilvitis is the Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operations Officer of Campus Buyback. He is responsible for Finance, Human Resources, Legal and Operations. For the past four years, Mr. Zilvitis has been General Partner of Next Stage Partners, a private investment fund specializing in the acquisition and restructuring of distressed debt and recapitalization strategies for private companies in the Intermountain West region. Prior to that, he was General Partner of Capsource West, an asset based lender and financial reengineering firm. Mr. Zilvitis has also held senior management positions at two nutraceutical companies.

Mr. Zilvitis received his MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management. He also completed GE Capital’s Financial Management Program. His undergraduate work was completed at Boston College.
Matt Excell – CTO
Mr. Excell is responsible for Campus Buyback’s Service Architecture, Software Development, Service Operations and Customer Support. Prior to Campus Buyback, he was the CEO and Chief Architect for The Possibility Forge, Inc. ‐ a consulting firm whose clients include several Fortune 500 and Global 2000 companies. As a recognized thought leader in the Java community, he has been an invited speaker at numerous national and international conferences and symposiums. He was also contracted by Sun Microsystems to validate the accuracy of their certification exams for Java Architects and Developers.

Mr. Excell received his MBA with IT Management Emphasis and BS in Computer Science from Western Governors University.
Harlan Gardiner – Board Member
Mr. Gardiner is a private investor living in Park City, Utah. Mr. Gardiner has been responsible for the turnaround and growth of several companies in the apparel, accessories and sports equipment industries. He has held senior executive management positions at Ogio International, Eastpak Corporation and JanSport, Inc.

Mr. Gardiner received an MBA at the Wharton School of Business and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Rutgers College.
R. Kirk Heaton – Board Member
Mr. Heaton, J.D., is Executive Vice President, General Counsel of Sentry. His responsibilities include leading the Structured Financing Division, originating and documenting Sentry’s financing and investment transactions, and managing Sentry’s various international business interests and investments. Mr. Heaton is also a member of Sentry’s Investment committee and primarily responsible for Sentry’s relationship with the Export-Import Bank of the United States.

Prior to joining Sentry, Mr. Heaton was Chief Operating Officer of International Armoring Corporation, a manufacturer of armored vehicles. For the preceding six years, he served as Division Legal Counsel and Director of Contracts for FMC-Jetway Systems.

Mr. Heaton graduated cum laude from Weber University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish and obtained a law degree from the University of Utah. He was a member of the Utah Law Review and was elected to the Utah Chapter of the Order of the Coif.
Jonathan M. Ruga – Board Member
Mr. Ruga is the Chief Executive Officer of Sentry Financial Corporation responsible for establishing Sentry’s strategic direction. He also leads Sentry’s private equity and real estate divisions. Prior to co-founding Sentry in 1986, Mr. Ruga was the Executive Vice President and General Counsel of a regional equipment finance company based in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Mr. Ruga graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Utah College of Business with undergraduate degrees in accounting and finance and with a Master of Business Administration Degree, and obtained a law degree from the SJ Quinney College of Law at the University of Utah, where he was a member of the Utah Law Review and was elected to the Utah Chapter of the Order of the Coif.
